Dream Story

This story uses mainly dark panels. I imagined the nighttime to be portrayed using very dark backgrounds with mainly the figures being the only visible things in the foreground. The story is shown in black and white. The panels can be broken up how the artist likes. I simply listed the number I had planned per page. As well as which should be displayed on certain pages.

The first character Dan has a short traditional boys haircut. His brown hair is parted off to one side, and he is wearing headphones, with an mp3 player attached to his arm. He wears a t-shirt with a simple design and basketball shorts. Dan is average height and weight, with an athletic body type. In the story he mainly runs with a very serious face.

Phillip is a very tall and skinny boy. He looks lanky almost to a point of being sickly, but still has muscles. He has short messy, blond hair. He has long thin fingers, and his clothes are baggy. Phil wears a medium colored tank top with basketball shorts.

Page 1 (6 panel break)

Panel 1

Close up shot of Dan kneeling tying shoes. There is a dimly lit cityscape behind him.

“I like to run at night.”

Panel 2

Dan is running at a medium pace. The full figure is basically all that stands out from the black background. Dimly lit cityscape.

Panel 3

Close shot of Dan’s face. His torso is partly seen. Sweat visibly is falling from his forehead. His face contains a look of seriousness, hinting only at the slightest of strain.

“It’s cooler than the daytime. Dimly lit cityscape.

Panel 4

This is a shot similar to Panel 2. Instead of which ever way his arms and legs were, they would switch off, to show the movement of running. Again the figure is basically all that stands out from the background. Dimly lit cityscape.

Panel 5

Dan is running with the full figure in view. Behind him the dimly lit cityscape appears to be sinking and melting. Shadowy hands are coming up around him while he is running.

“The world sinks to a single plain of darkness.”

Panel 6

Worm’s eye-view of Dan’s feet running overhead, his legs are partially visible. In background there are people writhing in pain. The figures seem to merge from the black background. One is on his knees clutching his throat like he can’t breathe. Another is on the ground reaching forward for help from Dan.

“The living cease to exist.”

Page 2 (5 panel break)

Panel 1

Narrative panel. Just a black panel with white lettering.

“I am left alone.”

Panel 2

Plain black panel.

Panel 3

Close-up shot showing Dan from his head to his knees running from left to right through the panel. Dan is running at a more brisk pace. His face is squinting, and he still has a serious look on his face. Phillip is seen on the other side of Dan. He is slightly behind Dan and is smiling and enjoying the night.

“And there’s Phillip.”

Panel 4

Closely cropped shot of both figures running angled towards one side of the reader. Phil is still slightly behind Dan.

“I met him recently. He’s quiet like I am.”

Panel 5

Narrative panel. Black panel with white lettering.

“Both of us share a need.”

Page 3 (6 panel break)

Panel 1

Dan is running down a street toward reader. There is paper trash blowing on street, and the houses look deserted. The background should still mainly look dark.

“To exist without the rest of the world for a few hours at a time.”

Panel 2

Wide shot of Dan and Phil running horizontally. Phil is in front of Dan on the other side of him, and grinning. There is paper trash on the street blowing about, and the houses look deserted.

Panel 3

Close up of Dan’s face. Eagle eye-view. Focusing on headphones on ears.

“My headphones drown out the world. Sometimes I forget Phil is there.

Panel 4

Like on Page 1, panel 6, worm’s eye-view of Dan running overhead. Phil is seen coming out of the black background and he is on the ground reaching out for Dan’s help. Shadowy figures are pulling at him.

Panel 5

Close up shot of Dan looking over his shoulder. He is running toward the reader. He has one arm up pulling one side of his headphones out so that he can listen to Phil who is right over his shoulder. Dan has a quizzical look on his face. Phil is leaning over his shoulder obviously talking and very happy.

“He likes to tell me jokes.”

Panel 6

Both figures have arms spread wild-eyed going crazy.

“Being the only two people alive can get lonely after awhile.”

Page 4 (6 panel break)

Panel 1

The figures are running horizontally on black background. Dan is in front running. Phil is leaning forward while running and is obviously whispering something in his ear. Phil has a hand up like he is whispering a secret.

“He asks me what the ghost said to the bee.”

Panel 2

Close up shot of Dan’s face. He has his hand scratching his chin like he is thinking, and a puzzled look on his face. His other hand is still holding his headphones off one ear.

“I have no idea.”

Panel 3

Same shot as panel 1. The figures stride is changed to show running movement.

“So he tells me.”

Panel 4

Narrative panel. Black panel with white type.

“Boo Bee!”

Panel 5

Close shot of both figures stopped running. They are both bent over laughing. Dan is making a gesture like slapping his knee with his hand.

“We both laugh.”

Panel 6

Close shot of both figures now lying on ground laughing harder. Legs can be up in the air. They are holding their sides.

“It feels good to laugh like a child.”

Page 5 (6 panel break)

Panel 1

Figures are running up a very steep hill. Everything is black except for the background which is white. They are still hunched and laughing but trying to run.

“The laughter makes us forget our place. It’s easy to run up steep hills.”

Panel 2

Both figures are on the peak of the hill. They are walking and holding their sides in pain. Still laughing uncontrollably. The panel is silhouetted like the last. The white type is in the shape of the hill.

“We can’t stop laughing.”

Panel 3

Another panel like panel 2. The figures are laughing on the hilltop.

Panel 4

Close shot of Phil slipping. His legs are flying out from under him, and his face is contorted in a very surprised look.

“Phil looses his footing coming down the hill.”

Panel 5

Shot from Phil’s perspective. First person. His hands are out in front of him going into the black.

“He falls sharply forward, toward the darkness.”

Panel 6

Black panel.

Page 6 (5 panel break)

Panel 1

Shot shows Phil barely seen from background. All that can be made out is his head and arms, and a slight bit of torso. There is a pool of white blood around him.

“At the bottom he is greeted by a pool of his own blood.”

Panel 2

Clear shot of Phil’s body now. One arm is actually detached at a point, but laying in line. His legs are behind and above him, all contorted and broken. He is still smiling wildly. The pool of blood below him is white.

“His bones are broken.”

Panel 3

Dan is squatting beside Phil. His arm is around Phil’s neck and they are laughing hysterically together.

“We can’t stop laughing.”

Panel 4

Close up shot of both figure’s heads. They are pressed together still laughing wildly.

Panel 5

Narrative panel. Black panel with white text.

“Neither of us feel pain.”
